One of the coolest, and probably the easiest customizing change you can do to a late model truck is to upgrade the gauge instrumentation. Many years ago someone created a gauge overlay that would turn the typical truck gauge background to white, instead of traditional black. People really dug it and the craze caught on. It is almost seems out of place today to not see some kind of custom gauge face on a customized truck. They a generally so easy to install, very cost effective and there are now so many different styles available, you really don't have an excuse not to install one.

One, if not The Leader in automotive aftermarket gauges is US Speedo. The US Speedo staff take custom gauge overlays and upgrades very serious and have just about any configuration available ranging from traditional colored overlays to the finest laser cut stainless steel overlays. They have even created a few different bezel or lens kits to mimic the instrument cluster of vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade among numerous other styles. They also offer different colored needles which gives the customer even greater customizing flexibility.

Granted, most truck nuts that have been around for a while know how to install a gauge replacement. But we realize there are always new hobbyists entering the scene, starting to customize their first truck and probably have never tried this before. To give you a good idea how it is done, the owners of US Speedo stopped by to provide us with the opportunity to document exactly how they recommend installing one of their cool looking new SS series stainless steel overlays. The kit also included a brush aluminum trimmed lens kit along with matching needles.

The install is very straight forward. Only the very basic of tools are required. In fact, about all you'll need are a small socket wrench, 7mm socket and a small flat head screw driver. The US Speedo kit comes with the required needle removal tool as well as white cotton gloves to keep from getting finger prints on the overlay during installation.

US Speedo includes a line diagram of your gauge array which is used to basically draw, or transfer the position of the gauge needles when the vehicle is in the off position. This is important to do before the change is made. This has always been the traditional method of trying to get the needles back into the correct position for an accurate read. Now follow along as we show you how easy it is to install a really cool looking sport truck instrument cluster.
